Winter Meetings Rumor Thread

There were a lot of little tidbits that punched out of this week’s Winter Meetings chatter. It’ll take a lot of work to get through it all, and it will feel dumb to dedicate a full post to any one because they’re rumors.

Also, roundtables are a good way to mitigate all of us lacking the desire to write on our own.

The 2014 U-God Offseason Plan

The World Series has finally started, meaning we're somewhere around a week or so away from baseball going out to buy some smokes and disappearing for months. But that does at least mean it's finally hot stove season. And when your favorite team has been bad for two years running, hot stove season winds up being far more fun than it actually should be.

Trade Deadline dust settles around the White Sox

For a while there, the sheer madness of the 2014 MLB trade deadline was like watching a heart-pounding segment of international news. It was gripping and compelling, but it would surely never actually affect you. The local news reminded you that your existence was a mundane one. The local news was the Twins debating whether to renew a millage tax, and the Royals announcing that the summer carnival was being postponed to next summer due to unforeseen permit issues.

Then the Tigers got David Price.

Rain robs Sox of Sale but they win anyway

White Sox fans expecting a healthy dose of Chris Sale in his second start back from injury saw their dreams cut short on Tuesday night as more than two hours of rain delays forced the ace out after just three innings.

Save Us, Scott Carroll - Game Preview & Lineups 5/3

The White Sox are currently on a three-game losing streak, and are turning to 1-start Ace Scott Carroll to stop the bleeding. It will be interesting to see what sort of outing they get from the 29-year old rookie.

As was to be expected, even in Carroll's debut gem where he soundly defeated David Price, he did not miss bats. Out of 100 pitches, Rays hitters swung 38 times and only missed twice. For someone to succeed without striking hitters out, they have to force a lot of grounders - something Carroll did successfully against Tampa (63.6 GB%).

Familiar Failures From Paulino & 'Pen Lead to Loss

Familiar Failures From Paulino & 'Pen Lead to Loss

The odds were against the White Sox from the start on this one. Justin Masterson, Cleveland’s ace, held the ball for the Indians while the Sox were represented by one Felipe Paulino. It seemed early that Paulino knew something that we didn’t, pitching to the score before there was a score. Both pitchers got hit around quite a bit, trading leads until both men had yielded enough runs for tickets to the shower, allowing the bullpens to decide this one on even ground. Spoiler alert: the White Sox bullpen failed, and the White Sox find themselves back at .500 by way of an 12-6 loss.

New Offense v. Old Nemesis: Game Preview & Lineups 4/12

Having won their first two games of the season against the Indians, the White Sox have already matched their win total against Cleveland for the entirety of the 2013 season. So far, the offense gets most of the credit for the team's 6-5 start, having scored 70 runs in those 11 games - the most in the majors.
