September! A Host Of Mostly Familiar Names Head to Chicago

No, the much-anticipated Carlos Rodon promotion didn't come, but the White Sox called up a host of players ahead of Tuesday's series opener against Minnesota, promoting seven players from Triple-A Charlotte.

Most of the names you're already familiar with, as all but one, Michael Taylor, has seen time with the White Sox either this season or last. You can read about what to expect from some of these guys in James Fegan's post last week, but here's the full rundown:

  • RHP Chris Bassitt
  • RHP Scott Carroll
  • OF Jordan Danks
  • C Josh Phegley
  • IF Marcus Semien
  • LHP Eric Surkamp
  • OF Michael Taylor

As I mentioned before, all of these players have seen time with the White Sox before except for Taylor, and all but Taylor and Bassitt have seen significant time in 2014, or in Phegley's case, 2013.

A bit on Taylor:

The White Sox acquired him from Oakland in June for minor leaguer Jake Sanchez. At 28, Taylor's days as a prospect are over but he was once rated as highly as No. 28 on Baseball America's Top 100 after destroying pitching in the Phillies' system in 2009.

He was one of the centerpiece prospects traded from Philadelphia to Toronto for Roy Halladay, but was shortly after traded to Oakland for Brett Wallace. He garnered just 81 major league plate appearances with Oakland over three seasons, putting together a .135/.210/.399 stat line in the process.

Taylor has seen a fair amount of success in Triple-A Charlotte since coming over from Oakland, hitting .306/.389/.489 in 254 plate appearances with 29 walks and 50 strikeouts.

I don't know how much success he'll have in the majors this time around, but he can't be any worse than Dayan Viciedo, right?
