We Should See Some Runs - Lineups & Preview 7/12
/Scott Carroll and Zach McAllister enter today with a combined ERA of 10.41. Therefore, if my calculations are correct, this should be a day for offenses. At least given that the wheels fell off of Noesi fairly early last night, and that they didn't have to pitch the 9th, the better relievers such as they are had the night off last night. If Scott Carroll can survive Ventura can deploy Putnam and Petricka to try to preserve a lead should one exist.
The White Sox come into today reeling a little bit. Instead of a thrilling 4-game sweep of Boston, they took a pair of unfortunate losses to split, and now are the owners of a 3-game losing streak. Although if they win today and tomorrow they can get to 46-50 at the All Star Break, at least.
Carroll is coming off of his best start since his major league debut in April where he defeated David Price of all people. As a fringe-quality sinker-baller, much of his fate is tied to whether he can keep the ball down and his defense can pick him up. At the very least, Jason Giambi is on the DL, so he can't scare Robin Ventura into more dumb IBBs or pull his random home run voodoo on them for today.
Ventura is mixing things up a bit today, giving Adam Eaton a day off - which I am completely fine with given his hamstring injuries so far this year. He's bumping up Alexei into the 2-slot and moving Jose Abreu to 3rd in the lineup. This isn't how I would configure the lineup against a RHP if Eaton is off the table, but it's not bad.
