Trying To Rebound From Guthrie - Lineups & Preview 6/14

Friday the 13th is supposed to be unlucky. Jeremy Guthrie destroys the White Sox. One had hoped that these two things together would cancel each other out and Chicago would once again pull to .500. Those hopes were immediately dashed as Quintana started the game by allowing five straight hits, and the game was instantly out of reach. Jeremy Guthrie, who has been coasting with a K-rate below 5 for years now, struck out 9 batters and easily protected the lead he was staked.

Oh well. At least Adam Eaton went 2/2 with 3 walks. The outfield is tremendously thin with de Aza and Viciedo forgetting how to hit, Avisail Garcia out, and every outfield prospect not named Courtney Hawkins busting as hard as they possibly can. Eaton performing is pretty essential for the 2014 White Sox to succeed.

Today they send Hector Noesi out against Danny Duffy. Although Noesi is a constant threat to just burst into flames on the mound, he has still been holding his pretty good velocity and has been a perfectly fine emergency fill-in, so far posting 47 innings of roughly league average ball for the White Sox.

Ventura is deploying his full right-handed complement today, benching Conor Gillaspie, Adam Dunn, and Alejandro de Aza against the left-handed Duffy. So far Duffy's ERA has been pretty but his peripherals are poor, so he should be mortal.
