Remember Sweeps? - Game Preview & Lineups 5/28
/For a pitcher to throw 6 innings while allowing 3 runs is the limit of what is considered to be a “quality start." This is something that Hector Noesi has achieved in two out of his last three starts. He’s pushed the limits, allowing the whole 3, and pitching no more than 6 in both of those successful outings but the point is we can throw a successful tag on it. When he first shrugged his way into the rotation every start was a countdown to meltdown, but that no longer seems to be the case. It’s on his strengthening shoulders that our hopes of an Indians sweep rests.
Wednesday night’s game is almost guaranteed to be shorter in time than Tuesday’s affair. There is no rain in the forecast, so any duration issues will be blamed on the game play alone. We know that a Noesi game does run the chance of becoming a slow-moving bullpen game early, but what kind of pace can we expect from Indians starter T.J. House? I don’t know. He’s only got 7 major league innings under his belt and one start. The start came against the Orioles, lasted 6 innings, and resulted in a loss after he surrendered 5 runs. Maybe this will be a long one.
Paul Konerko was so devastated by Michael Bourn’s thievery of his 8th inning home run last night that he’s refusing to suit up against the Indians. Or maybe he’s just been playing far too much for his old bones since the shelving of Jose Abreu. You decide.
