Matt Lindstrom to the Disabled List; Javy Guerra on his way to Chicago
/Yet another White Sox player has fallen victim to injuries this season and this time its Matt Lindstrom.
During the ninth inning of last night's contest against the Kansas City Royals, Lindstrom tweaked his ankle as he rushed off the mound to field a soft grounder in front of home plate. He immediately showed discomfort in his left ankle and was replaced by Scott Downs after a conference on the mound with White Sox trainer Herm Schneider.
Lindstrom joins Chris Sale, Jose Abreu, Nate Jones, Felipe Paulino, and Avisail Garcia on the disabled list. Lindstrom was heating up recently along with the rest of the bullpen. In April he produced an ERA of 3.75 and was off to a good start in May with an ERA of 2.57 over 7.0 innings of work. One or many of Downs, Petricka, Belasario, and Webb could see time in the ninth inning as each has been pitching well of late.
The White Sox called up RHP Javy Guerra from the Charlotte Knights to fill the open spot on the 25-man roster. The 28 year old Guerra was claimed off waivers from the Dodgers at the end of March and has been getting lucky in Charlotte ever since. He has amassed an ERA of 2.33 over 19.1 innings for the Knights but his strike out rate is only 13.1% and he is walking 10% of the batters he faces. According to Pitch F/X, Guerra is a fastball-slider pitcher with a four-seamer averaging 93 mph. He also mixes in a changeup and a curveball from time to time.
