One Game Will Have to Do - Game Preview & Lineups 4/20
/The only thing left to do now is to not get swept. Series win is out of the question and the White Sox are staring at a 5-game losing streak if they fail to pull one out in Texas. Erik Johnson has looked better with each trip out to the mound, his most recent being his best of the season in which he allowed a single run over 6.2 innings. It also represents the last time the Sox won a game.
The offense stirred last night but failed to look as lively as they had in the first two weeks of the season and certainly not enough to overcome a poor outing by Jose Quintana. Today they’ll be without a proper leadoff man with Adam Eaton set to miss a few days after tweaking his leg in a low-speed collision with Prince Fielder. Visions of Juan Pierre dancing in our heads with Marcus Semien leading off despite an inability to be productive thus far this season with the bat. Semien is walking quickly towards reassignment with Gordon Beckham very nearly ready to return to the big squad. Semien in the leadoff spot only serves to shine a spotlight on the poor performance that has been executed relatively quietly thus far.
For the Rangers, Robbie Ross has been making the transition from bullpen to starter beautifully. He’s only let up 2 runs in 3 starts thus far, both allowed in his first, for a sparkling ERA of 1.00 even. If there’s a knock, he’s been walking over 10% of the batters he’s faced. If he doesn’t hit the zone more often, that ERA is going to go skyward in a hurry.
