White Sox Bullpen Appears Set With Addition Of Javy Guerra

Daniel Webb may be headed to Charlotte after all.

Earlier this week, after Mitchell Boggs was waived and Jake Petricka was send down, it appeared Webb had the inside track on winning the White Sox's last spot in the bullpen.

It appears, however, that the White Sox had other plans. The team announced it claimed Javy Guerra off waivers from the Los Angeles Dodgers on Wednesday, filling out their 40-man roster with — stop me if you've heard this before — a veteran arm with a mixed track record coming off of an injury-riddled season.

Guerra, 29, spent three seasons with the Dodgers and joins Matt Lindstrom as the only members of the White Sox's bullpen with experience closing games. He racked up 21 saves in 2011 and eight in 2012 before being replaced by Kenley Jansen, and spent the majority of 2013 in Triple-A after undergoing shoulder surgery prior to the season.

Guerra is out of options, which is presumably why the Dodgers placed him on waivers and also why it's probably safe to assume he will make the White Sox's Opening Day roster over Webb and others. He's yet another name that follow's Rick Hahn's winter theme of acquiring low-risk arms with upside. If he succeeds, it's a great move. If not, he can be easily replaced by Webb or any of the team's other Triple-A arms.

Assuming all the things I've assumed above, here's how it looks like the White Sox's bullpen will shape up on Opening Day:

RHP — Nate Jones, Matt Lindstrom, Ronald Belisario, Maikel Cleto, Javy Guerra
LHP — Donnie Veal, Scott Downs
