Old Southpaw v. New Southpaw - Lineups & Preview 6/29

Today, barring incident, I probably won't be too upset if the White Sox lose. Probably heresy, but it's hard for me to ever stop rooting for Mark Buehrle. The former White Sox institution is actually a Cy Young contender this year, with a 10-4 record and an ERA of 2.52, somehow posting the lowest home run rate of his career at age 35. Buehrle is an obvious regression candidate as the season progresses, but the more achievements he can shove in his cap and the longer he hangs around, the closer he creeps to a weird, dark horse Hall of Fame resumé. And that would make me very happy.

Jose Quintana has been pitching far better than his ERA and W-L record would indicate this season, and has gone 7 innings in each of his last two outings. Given how shaky the bullpen has returned to being, if the White Sox want to win three in a row then they'll need everything they can get from their blossoming #2 starter.

The White Sox are running their "versus lefties" lineup out there today.

White Sox

1. Adam Eaton - CF

2. Gordon Beckham - 2B

3. Jose Abreu - DH

4. Dayan Viciedo - LF

5. Alexei Ramirez - SS

6. Paul Konerko - 1B

7. Moises Sierra - RF

8. Tyler Flowers - C

9. Leury Garcia - 3B

Jose Quintana - SP

Blue Jays

1. Jose Reyes - SS

2. Darin Mastroianni - LF

3. Edwin Encarnacion - DH

4. Dioner Navarro - C

5. Brad Glenn - RF

6. Adam Lind - 1B

7. Steve Tolleson - 3B

8. Colby Rasmus - CF

9. Munenori Kawasaki - 2B

Mark Buehrle - SP

The White Sox are fortunate to catch the Blue Jays without Jose Bautista or Brett Lawrie. Adam Lind, who has been a huge part of their potent attack this year, is now pressed into service against a LHP. Against righties, Lind is as good a hitter as anybody, and against lefties he is pretty terrible, so that's a big swing on top of losing Bautista directly.
